With the death of another Maldivian linked to Covid-19, the country’s death toll has risen to 244.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 81-year-old man.
He was receiving treatment at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead, at 7:19am on Thursday.
This is the first Covid-19 fatality to have been reported in November.
The latest Covid-19 death was reported a week back, when an 81-year-old local woman admitted at Addu Covid Management Facility succumbed to complications of the infection on October 28.
Of the 244 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 194 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October.
