President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have toured the Palestine Pavilion and Saudi Arabia’s Pavilion at the Expo 2020 Dubai.

Upon arrival, Ambassador, Chargé d'affaires of the Consulate General of the State of Palestinians in Dubai Ali M. Younis received the Maldivian First Couple at the Palestine Pavilion.

Featuring an immersive sensory exploration of Palestine and its people that aims to shift international perceptions and demonstrate a fresh and vibrant perspective, the Pavilion offers a visitor experience at the Expo 2020 Dubai, themed around “Connecting Minds and Creating the Future”.

This year’s expo reflects upon sustainability, innovation and cooperation from around the world and 192 nations are participating in the six-month event, set to conclude on 31 March 2022.

Measuring 13,059 square meters, the pavilion of Saudi Arabia is the second largest at the expo, after the UAE Pavilion. The Saudi Arabia Pavilion is located in the Opportunity District, representing the kingdom’s unlimited drive, as well as its welcoming character and deep-rooted culture.

The First Couple, joined by a delegation of cabinet ministers and high-level executives from the government and the President’s Office, departed on the official visit to Dubai on Sunday.

Solih will directly head to Glasgow, Scotland on October 29 for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), slated for November, after concluding the Dubai trip. The president will be joined by Speaker of Parliament and former President, Mohamed Nasheed during the Glasgow trip.

Held every five years, the Expo 2020 was initially scheduled from October 20 last year to April 10 this year, however, due to the situation surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, it was postponed.
