Alaina Teplitz, Ambassador of the United States of America to the Maldives has paid a farewell call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During the call held at the President’s Office on Tuesday, the ambassador and President Solih engaged in discussions revolving around ways to further enhance collaboration between Maldives and the U.S.

Expressing gratitude for the U.S government’s crucial assistance in common areas of interest including human rights, good governance, democracy consolidation, socioeconomic development as well as counter-terrorism, President Solih went on to thank the ambassador for the close cordial relationship she helped strengthen during her tenure.

President Solih wished Ambassador Teplitz well in her future endeavors and role she pursues. Teplitz thanked the Maldivian president for the close cooperation and expressed hope to see the multidimensional relationship between both countries continue to flourish, assuring the president that the U.S government will continue to support the government of Maldives.

She went on to applaud the Solih administration’s vision and commended the Maldives’ leadership internationally in its call for climate action, especially in the area of climate finance.

In addition, the ambassador shed light on the prospects of mutual collaboration in matters of environment, disaster management and counter-terrorism.

The meeting also saw President Solih expressing delight in the Biden administration’s decision to re-join the Paris Agreement. He went on to highlight that the Maldives looks forward to seeing more climate advocacy and action from the U.S government at the upcoming COP26 slated for November, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
