Maldives lost to Bangladesh in the sixth match of the SABA Championship 2017 on Sunday night.

Bangladesh took the match with a score of 86 points to 52.

With Sunday’s loss, the home team has now lost three of their games, against India on Friday and Nepal on Saturday. This means that Maldives, who were the runner ups of the SABA Championship 2016, has lost the chance at a silver medal in the tournament.

Bangladesh, who came out strong in the beginning of the game took a comfortable lead early on in the match, with the second quarter ending at 59 points to 26.

While the Maldives team had recovered in the last quarter of the game, and was able to lessen the point difference, they were unable to equalize the game.

Minister of Youth and Sports, Iruthisham Adam presented the award to the best player of the match, Bangladesh’s Shamsuzzaman Khan.

India won the match against Sri Lanka on Sunday evening, with a score of 88 points to 61. The best player of the match was awarded to India’s Amritpal Singh.

Five nations are competing in the fifth SABA Championship; India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives. This is the first time that an international basketball tournament is being held in the Maldives.
