10 police officers reported for collecting evidence illegally
The issue of courts allowing felons to go without a sentence when they are being investigated for major crimes has been surfacing
He also stated that the matter must also being investigated in court, along with issues in relation to the state
Shameem stated that the matter is being monitored closely

Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem has declared that the case of 10 police officers collecting evidence in violation of the Criminal Procedure Code has been brought to the attention of Maldives Police Service (MPS).

The issue of courts allowing offenders to be released without pressing charges when they are being investigated for major crimes due to the collection of evidence through illegal means, has been surfacing. MP of Mathiveri constituency, Hassan Zareer had raised many questions on behalf of concerned citizens regarding the matter to the Judiciary Commission of the Parliament. 

While speaking at the committee on August 30th, Shameem stated that the matter of dangerous criminals being released because of evidence being collected through illegal methods, is being monitored closely.

Shameem affirmed that in the past six months, a total of 10 police officers were identified for committing this crime and informed that the information has been shared with relevant bodies.

He also stated that the matter must also being investigated in court, along with issues in relation to the state.
