Third session of the Parliament is scheduled to begin on the 16th of August.
As the third session of the Parliament for this year is set to commence in mid August, the second session concluded on the 8th of July. The second session of the Parliament conducted a total of 22 sittings and had a total 104 incomplete tasks when they went on a break. This includes 54 tasks delayed from the Parliament’s first session and 50 tasks presented during the second session. From this, 41 tasks have been completed and there are a remaining 63.
In the course of the sittings between May 16th and July 8th, important bills passed include – the sixth amendment legislation to the Judges Act of Maldives, the first amendment to the Parliamentary Privileges and Powers Act, amendment to the Anti-Terrorism Act, amendment to the Airport Taxes and Fees Act, amendment to the Income Tax Act and amendment to the Sea Vessels Act.
Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla has been presiding over the sittings since May 6, when Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed was injured in a bomb blast in Maldives capital.
The third session of the Parliament will continue till November.
