PPM events prioritized over Parliament sessions

Parliament session for Wednesday has been delayed so that Members of Parliament and Speaker Abdullah Maseeh from ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) can attend a PPM membership drive event.

Parliament sessions are usually held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays on 0900 hrs. However, Wednesday’s session is scheduled to begin at 1400 hrs. This is the first time in recent history that the Parliament session is convened in the afternoon.

The planned PPM event is scheduled for 1230 hrs at Stelco hall. President Yameen, Government Ministers and MPs from PPM will participate in the event.

Speaker had hastened the vote taken on February 8th to attend another event of the Party. Normally, voting is scheduled for 1330 hrs however, that day voting was held hours earlier.

Parliament procedures have come under fire from opposition MPs and public.
