A total of 742 tourist accommodation facilities are currently in operation across Maldives.
Latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the archipelago nation, a popular holiday destination among zealous travelers, currently has a total of 48,420 operational tourist beds.
Since July 22, three more guesthouses have opened doors for tourists, meaning that a total of 438 guesthouses are currently operational across the Maldives, with 7,866 beds.
Other operational tourist accommodation facilities include 154 resorts with 36,446 beds, 10 hotels with 1,360 beds and 140 liveaboard vessels that are operating 2,748 beds.
Maldives has a capacity of 1,034 tourist facilities which include 160 safari vessels, 712 hotels and guesthouses and 162 resorts. This means that of the total facility-capacity, eight resorts, 264 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.
Of the 438 operational guesthouses across the Maldives by July 28, 183 guesthouses have resumed operations in Kaafu atoll.
Over the past week, one more guesthouse resumed operations in Kaafu atoll and an additional two guesthouses opened doors to tourists in Alif Dhaal atoll.
Guesthouses currently in operation are:
- Nine guesthouses in two islands of Haa Alif atoll,
- Three guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
- One guesthouse in Shaviyani atoll,
- Three guesthouses in Noonu atoll,
- Two guesthouses in Lhaviyani atoll,
- 25 guesthouses in eight islands of Baa atoll,
- 183 guesthouses in 10 islands of Kaafu atoll,
- 94 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Alif atoll,
- 50 guesthouses in eight islands of Alif Dhaal atoll,
- 36 guesthouses in four islands of Vaavu atoll,
- One guesthouse in Meemu atoll,
- One guesthouse in Faafu atoll,
- One guesthouse in Thaa atoll,
- One guesthouse in Gaaf Alif atoll,
- Two guesthouses in one island of Laamu atoll,
- Three guesthouses in three islands of Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
- 15 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
- Eight guesthouses in four islands of Seenu atoll.
By Wednesday, Maldives tourist arrivals for the year had exceeded 600,000.
Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
