Tourist arrivals have increased by 9.1 percent from January to August 2018 compared to the same period last year, statistics by the Ministry of Tourism have shown.
According to the statistics publicized by the ministry, a total of 972،839 tourists had arrived in Maldives by August this year whereas the amount of arrivals in the same period last year were recorded at 892،025.
While statistics show that the most tourist arrivals were recorded from the Chinese market, 33،472 tourists had arrived from the country in August alone. The second most visited market is from the United Kingdom which was recorded at 9,249 arrivals.
Statistics show that a total of 123،992 tourists had arrived in Maldives in the past month alone, which is an increase by 2.2 percent compared to August 2017.
There had been a boost in tourist arrivals within the first three months of 2018, with central bank Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) having revealed that US Dollars 993.5 million had been acquired through tourism.
Maldives had welcomed it’s millionth tourist at the Velana International Airport in September.
