Ministry of Tourism has revealed a hike in tourist arrivals to the Maldives in July this year compared to the same period in the previous year.
Ministry statistics show 122,332 arrivals throughout July, and a whopping total of 848,847 arrivals by the end of the month which is a 10.1% growth compared to the same time in the previous year which was 770,715.
Arrivals from China dominate the market with the number reaching 160,369 with the UK coming in second with 65,956 arrivals.
According to the analysis report publicized by the ministry on Thursday, a total of 33,277 tourists had arrived in the Maldives from China, in July and this is an evident drop of 3.1% compared to July 2017.
While tourist arrivals from the European market were recorded highest from the United Kingdom, the number of arrivals stands at 8,421 which is a 9.3% increase compared to the previous year according to the ministry.
Statistics publicized by the ministry reveal that a growth of 12.8% was observed from the European market and a 6.5% growth was observed from the Asia-Pacific market.
Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) had previously revealed that within the first three months of 2018, Maldives had gained an income of US Dollars 993.5 million (MVR 15.3 billion) through the tourism industry.
