Maldives coronavirus active cases dropped below 2,600 with the 98 new cases and 147 recoveries reported on Monday.
According to the latest figures by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the cases were confirmed from 5,744 samples tested during the reporting perion. This comprises of 26 cases in the Greater Male’ region, 17 in operational resorts and 55 in outlying atolls. Atolls continue to report the highest daily figures for positive cases since June.
The new cases pushes Maldives’ Covid-19 total to 76,848.
While 147 additional recoveries were also reported on Monday, a notable increase from the previous day's 78, the island nation's total recoveries stand at 74,020.
There have been 219 fatalities to Covid-19.
With these developments, the country's active Covid-19 cases has dropped to 2,597 from the previous day's 2,646. 13 patients are hospitalized for treatment.
While authorities strengthened coronavirus safety measures back in May following the confirmation of a fourth wave, some of these measures have since been lifted allowing travel between islands without quarantine. Individuals are now allowed to go to islands that do not have any Covid-19 monitoring measures without having to quarantine if fully vaccinated, after presenting a negative PCR test. HPA and council approval is required to travel to islands with these measures in place.
There are currently 14 inhabited under monitoring. While the measures were lifted from HA. Dhihdhoo on July 21 after a month, they have once again been imposed there after a resident who consulted at the island's flu clinic tested positive for the virus. This is the fourth time the island has been placed under monitoring since the start of the pandemic.
Furthermore, Kulhudhiffushi City in Haa Dhaalu atoll, which was placed under monitoring recently, confirmed 14 active Covid-19 cases on Monday.
While Maldives confirmed its first coronavirus cases in March 2020, the country remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 2 August.
