Police have confirmed that the body of the 13-year-old boy found stuffed inside a suitcase has been sent to India for a post-mortem examination.
While the murder was reported two weeks ago, police said that the body was sent to Trivandrum on Monday morning. It added that the autopsy is being carried out by the Government Medical College.
Police early morning on June 22 revealed that the 13-year-old was found dead in the capital’s suburban district Hulhumale’, a day after an abduction report was filed. The body was found stuffed inside a suitcase in the lagoon northeast of Hulhumalé Phase II, a region into which entry is unauthorized.
At a press conference held the same day, Deputy Gender Minister Fathmath Yumna revealed that the Family and Child Protection Services had worked with the family of the murdered boy to provide social support to him.
The 13-year-old boy was a native of Madaveli island in Gaafu Dhaalu atoll but had been residing the capital since he was a child.
Police have confirmed the arrest of two suspects in relation to the abduction and murder; a 17-year-old and 27-year-old. While the suspects have been reported as acquaintances of the victim, Gender Ministry has taken action against four media outlets for publishing content “that cannot be proven”.

The whole country was shaken after the abduction and consecutive murder of a 13-year-old boy made the headlines, and the matter is being reviewed by the parliament’s human rights and gender committee as well.
