The Community Fund initiative is part of BML's efforts to empower individuals and NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects

The Bank of Maldives has announced five winning proposals for the second quarter of 2021, under the bank’s ‘Aharenge Bank Community Fund’ initiative.

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

The national bank revealed that the five winning proposals are:

  • A proposal to revamp the Haa Dhaal atoll Hanimaadhoo island school library, submitted by Hanimaadhoo Zuvaanunge Jamiyya
  • A proposal to establish a picnic area in Lhaimagu island of Shaviyani atoll submitted by Lhaimagu Ekuveringe Rooh
  • A proposal submitted by a local of Gan island in Laamu atoll to establish a community beach park and solar street lights in the island
  • A proposal submitted by the Gaaf Dhaal atoll Fiyoaree Association for Community Empowerment to establish a community outdoor library in the island and
  • A proposal by a local from Addu City’s Maradhoo district to establish a community park.

The proposal to establish a community park in Addu was submitted by Maradhoo native Ibrahim Athif, whereas the proposal to establish a community beach park and solar street lights in Gan island was submitted by Ibrahim Niyaz.

The national bank’s Manager of Public Relations Mohamed Saeed revealed that BML had received a lot of great proposals under the initiative of which five winning proposals have been chosen.

Saeed revealed that BML has supported initiatives benefitting the communities of 50 islands so far, and that the bank extends appreciation to individuals and NGOs for ideas and tireless work to deliver the projects even in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Bank of Maldives will be awarding MVR 50,000 to the selected projects under the community fund initiative in the areas of education, environment, sports and community development.

Five winning proposals are selected during each quarter.
