The Secretariat of the Addu City Council has announced that they will be discontinuing issuing services to residents until further notice, with some services of the Addu Equatorial Hospital also halted temporarily.

In a press statement, the Addu City Council stated that in light of the global Covid-19 pandemic, and the state of monitoring in effect across Addu City since 1 May due to confirmed community spread of Covid-19, the Addu City Council will be discontinuing issuing services to residents until further notice for the health and safety of those living in Addu City. However, the statement notes that while the administrative functions and services of the Addu City Council have been halted, the Addu Emergency Operations Center and their Social Support Desks would still be operational for residents seeking assistance during this time.

In addition to this, the statement also notes that until services that were discontinued at the Addu Equatorial Hospital due to Covid-19 resume, the hospital's OPD entrance will be closed, with the Emergency Entrance designated as the main point of entry and exit to the Addu Equatorial Hospital until further notice.

While Addu City has confirmed community spread of Covid-19, recent statistics show 201 residents tested positive for the infection from Addy City, with 38 recoveries reported alongside six persons receiving in-hospital care for Covid-19. Information made public by the Addu Emergency Operations Center reveal that while 189 samples were collected for testing on Saturday, a total of 3,097 samples had been tested thus far with 514 persons identified as direct contacts of Covid-positive patients in Addu City.
