The newly-appointed representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) to the Maldives, Dr. Nazneen Anwar, paid her introductory call on Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid on Sunday.

The pair met within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the WHO's Representative presented her letter of Credence to Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid. During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Representative Dr. Anwar discussed ways in which the WHO could further support strengthening the Maldives' health sector.

In addition to this, FM Shahid and Representative Dr. Anwar explored ways in which cooperation between WHO and the Maldives could be strengthened, along with difficulties pertaining to the global Covid-19 pandemic and potential solutions for social and economic recovery.

FM Shahid went on to thank the WHO for their generous support of the Maldives amid the global Covid-19 pandemic. Minister Shahid highlighted the critical role WHO played in assisting the Maldives with challenges faced due to the global pandemic, such as minimizing its long-term socioeconomic impact on world countries.
