The state of monitoring in Addu City, initiated after the discovery of positive Covid-19 cases, has been revoked after over a month.
All of Addu had been placed under monitoring on 6 February 2021 after two positive cases of Covid-19 were confirmed from Hithadhoo. Following contact tracing efforts, authorities had been able to identify two distinct clusters of Covid-19 from Addu City, one cluster corresponding to an aviation command training session, and the other to expect workers operating at an MTCC development site in the city.
While the state of monitoring in Addu City has been revoked, vaccination efforts were also underway across the interconnected islands in recent weeks. Vaccinations were conducted for chronically ill bedridden patients in Addu City on Saturday. The Addu Emergency Operations Center (AEOC) has stated that vaccinations have been temporarily discontinued for the general public.
According to statistics made public by the AEOC, over 12,000 people had received doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in Addu City thus far. As of now, 4,889 samples have been tested for the infection in the city, out of which 92 positive cases have been confirmed.
By Friday, there were six active cases of Covid-19 in Addu, with 472 people having been identified as direct contacts while 207 buildings remain quarantined across the interconnected islands of the city,
