Maldives has reported the nation's 62nd death from Covid-19 on Sunday.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the deceased as a 62-year-old local man being treated for Covid-19 while admitted on the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital.

The man's death was reported at 5:06am in the morning on Sunday.

This is the second Covid-19 related death reported in the Maldives in as many days, and the 10th death attributed to the infection confirmed in the month of February.

With a spike in case count, hospitalizations have also increased in comparison to what was observed during the second peak of Covid-19 last year.

Dr. Ahmed Shaheed, member of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)'s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) has admonished recklessness on behalf of the public in treating the potentially fatal Covid-19 infection as a simple common cold. Health authorities are presently working to control the spread of Covid-19 across the capital of Male' without initiating a restrictive full-lockdown across the city.
