28-year-old Imran Ali who was left with serious injuries following an accident at the Male’ port earlier this month, has passed away in hospital in India.
Imran was left with serious injuries after a carpet roll fell on top of him, while on duty early morning on the 5th of February.
He was transferred to India’s Amrita Hospital for further treatment last Monday, after being treated at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)’s intensive care unit.
Following the accident, MINA Investment where Imran was employed at, has been suspended pending investigation. Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) said the accident took place while Mina Investment was handling a shipment of goods at the port.
This is the second fatal accident reported from the Male’ port this year; 27-year-old Abdulla Asim succumbed to injuries sustained from a falling glass palette inside the MPL area on 7 January, while in hospital on January 16.
MPL has established health and safety protocols for those operating within the MPL yard.
