President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has forwarded eight non-resident ambassadorial nominees for parliamentary review.
The names were forwarded to the Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Relations at Tuesday’s sitting.
The details of the eight non-resident ambassadorial appointments forwarded for review are as follows;
- The Ambassador of Maldives to Germany, Ahmed Latheef, to be appointed as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Ukraine
- The Ambassador of Maldives to India, Dr. Hussain Niyaz, to be appointed as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan
- The Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka, Omar Abdul Razzak, to be appointed as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Australia and the Republic of South Africa
- The Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Khaleel, to be appointed as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to the State of Palestine
- The Ambassador of Maldives to Thailand, Mohamed Jinah, as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Lao People's Democratic Republic
- The Maldives' Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Dr. Asim Ahmed, as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Turkey and the Republic of Austria
- The Ambassador of Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, Aminath Shabina, as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Egypt
- The Ambassador of Maldives to Singapore, Ibrahim Shaheeb, as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to New Zealand
As per Article 115 (l) of the Constitution, the president is entrusted “to appoint members of diplomatic missions to foreign countries and international organizations in consultation with the People’s Majlis.”
