Former Attorney General Dhiyana Saeed has been summoned to the Maldives Police Service, to record her statement in relation to the case she filed against former lawmaker Faris Maumoon.

Dhiyana claims that Faris had mishandled MVR 24 million she gave to him upon his father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's request.

The former AG confirmed the summon in a tweet on Friday, and said that she had waited more than two years in the hopes the dispute could be resolved amicably. She added that she felt compelled to work with authorities as Maumoon and Faris continue to deny having received the disputed loan from her husband and Member of Parliament for Kaashidhoo Constituency, Abdulla Jabir.

Diyana recently addressed a letter to MPS, requesting an investigation into Faris' apparent mishandling of the loan, which former president Maumoon claims he never received. In her letter, Diyana expressed concern that a verdict was to be announced in the case without any evidence being considered, other than Maumoon's flat claim that he had never received the loan.

The loan question is worth MVR 24 million, which MP Jabir claims to have issued to Maumoon upon his request in 2018. Diyana clarified earlier that MP Jabir loaned Former President Maumoon such a large sum of money without collateral as Jabir considered Maumoon's word to be his guarantee.

MP Jabir has since lodged a case against Maumoon in court, intending to seize the former president's residence as he has failed to pay back the loan as they had previously agreed.
