A fire broke out on the "Nautilus One" safari en route to H.Dh. Hanimaadhoo from Hulhumalé early Monday morning, with the burnt vessel sinking into the sea as fire fighters attempted to get the blaze under control.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) revealed they had received a report of a fire incident in the early hours of Monday around 3:39am. MNDF added that the safari had been 13 nautical miles from Kaashidhoo island at the time the fire broke out.

Further, MNDF said that their fire and rescue teams had begun efforts to get the fire under control after the incident had been reported, and that the vessel, which had been burned severely, had sunk into the sea at around 6:44am while firefighting efforts were still underway.

MNDF confirmed that no injuries had been reported from the five Maldivians and one foreign sailor on board the “Nautilus One” at the time of the incident.
