Harbor design and build projects in two islands undertaken by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) are progressing smoothly.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, the company revealed that the design and build project of the harbor in Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll, has been completed by 22 percent.

MTCC is currently working on the component to install precast concrete blocks required for the construction of a quay wall and paved area.

As such, the installation of a quay wall is currently at 63 percent progression, with the pavement area being 16 percent complete.

Under the development project, MTCC will dredge 7,952 cubic meters in the new harbor basin, 10,134 cubic meters will also be dredged into the current harbor basin.

Further, the project includes the construction of an outer wall measuring 208 meters, an inner wall of 329 meters as well as a paved area measuring 1,875 square meters.

The then-Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC for a total of MVR 46.01 million, on 1 October 2019.

In addition, MTCC also provided updates on the project to design and build the harbor of Hangnaameedhoo island in Alif Dhaal atoll.

As such, the project is currently at 15 percent progression.

The company is currently working on the dredging component of the new harbor basin.

MTCC has completed the dredging component of the existing channel of the harbor, the company said.

Under the project, MTCC is tasked with dredging 6,363 cubic meters of the harbor, installing an outer wall measuring 204 meters as well as planting revetment along 160 meters of the harbor region. Other tasks under the project include installing street lights and a pavement measuring 1,330 square meters, as well as the construction of an inner quay wall along 255 meters.

The project is worth MVR 32.2 million and was contracted to the company by the ministry on 29 December, 2019.
