Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dr. Abdulla Fairoosh retired on Saturday after 20 years of service.
Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed, revealed this via Twitter, saying that the duty Fairoosh had performed for his nation as police officer for the past 20 years was an invaluable contribution to the Maldives Police Service.
CP Hameed went on to thank Fairoosh for his hard work, and wished him the best for his ަfuture endeavors.
While Fairoosh's retirement has been announced officially, no reason has been publicized as to why he chose this time to leave the police establishment.
Dr. Fairoosh took over as acting police commissioner following the overthrowal of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s government in 2012.
He was suspended in 2017 for posting a tweet which allegedly defamed then-President Yaameen and his government while abroad completing his higher education, and was reinstated into active duty in 2019 by the incumbent administration.
Fairoosh was promoted to his former post of Assistant Commissioner of Police shorty after having rejoined the force.
