Over 40,000 beds in tourist facilities across the Maldives are currently in operation.

Daily statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism reveal that by Wednesday, 40,185 beds were in operation across 489 tourist facilities in the archipelago nation.

By Wednesday, a total of 139 resorts were in operation with 32,380 beds. The ministry revealed that three more resorts are scheduled to reopen by the end of the ongoing month, which will increase the number of operational beds in resorts by 412 more beds.

1,186 beds are in operation at 10 operational hotels, and 2,521 beds in 130 liveaboard vessels are also in operation.

According to the latest statistics publicized by the ministry, a total of 210 guesthouses are currently in operation in 33 islands across 10 atolls.

The number of guesthouses reopened across atolls are:

  • Three in Haa Alif atoll,
  • One in Noonu atoll,
  • Eight in Baa atoll,
  • 94 in Kaafu atoll,
  • 51 in Alif Alif atoll,
  • 20 in Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 21 in Vaavu atoll,
  • One in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • Seven in Gnaviyani atoll,
  • Four in Seenu atoll.

Since Maldives reopened borders for international travel on July 15, after a little over three months since the government halted issuing on-arrival visas on March 27, a total of 525,057 tourist arrivals were recorded by Wednesday.

The top source market for Maldives tourism remains Russia, with 26,555 arrivals recorded since border reopening, up until Wednesday. India follows at its tail with 23,858 arrivals, and third comes the United Kingdom with 16,987 tourist arrivals.
