Maldives expects over 50,000 tourist arrivals within the next 17 days.
This was revealed by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MALC), who noted that 50,000 tourist arrivals have been confirmed for the remainder of the month.
After a little over three months since borders were closed on March 27, Maldives reopened borders for international travel on July 15. As tourist arrivals continue to steadily increase, the tourism ministry has estimated that the island nation will reach its target of 500,000 tourist arrivals by December 25.
On Saturday, Maldives welcomed the 100,000th tourist arrival since border reopening.
MACL’s Manager of Terminal Operations, Ibrahim Hussain told RaajjeMV that a record number of tourist arrivals was recorded on Saturday, where over 3,800 tourists arrived in the island nation.
Hussain revealed that Qatar Airways has also increased flight frequency to Maldives from one daily flight to two daily flights since December 10, alongside Emirates, which currently operates three daily flights to Maldives since December 10.
According to MACL statistics, 15 international airlines operated flights to Maldives on Friday alone, as such, 2,516 tourist arrivals were recorded that day. 1,649 tourists had departed the island nation on Friday.
21 domestic airlines had also operated flights that day; 15 flights of Maldivian four from Flyme and two from Manta Air.
Friday also saw seven private jets land at Velana International Airport.
