Maldives productivity grows by 2.7 percent

Maldives’ productivity averages had grown by 2.7 in the last year, the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) said.
MMA’s analysis says that 23 percent of the 2.7 came from tourism, and while 10 percent came from communication, construction had generated nine percent of the amount.
119,000 tourists had visited the Maldives in 2016, though shifts in figures between last year and 2015 were negligible, MMA said.
Most of these tourists had come from other countries in Asia, and tourist influx had primarily been from India and Malaysia. However, the MMA noted that tourist arrivals from Germany and the United Kingdom had dropped during the period.
The State Budget for 2017 estimated the year-end income to be MVR 21.9 billion while expenditure was put at 22.1 billion. The bulk of 2017’s expenses are to be allocated towards funding development projects.
