Maldives reported 26 new cases of the ongoing global Covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday, whereas the number of recoveries being reported on a daily basis continues to surge.
The Health Protection Agency confirmed 23 out of the total infections reported by sundown on Wednesday, from the greater Malé region, two from liveaboard vessels and one from an operational resort.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 total case count to 13,274.
The new cases were confirmed out of the 1,728 samples collected between 6pm Tuesday and 6pm Wednesday. Authorities have thus far collected a total of 261,047 samples for Covid-19 testing.
Further, HPA reported 104 additional virus-stricken patients are to have made full recoveries over the past 24 hours, which means that the country has confirmed a total of 12,591 recoveries.
Maldives currently has 629 active cases of the global pandemic.
While 47 Covid-19 patients have succumbed to the infection in Maldives, there are 68 patients hospitalized for treatment currently, which is one less than the previous day.
Despite the number of daily infections being reported of recent dropping, authorities and health experts continue their appeal on the public to adhere to safety guidelines, as the virus is far from being controlled in the island nation.
