On Monday, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 15 new Covid-19 infections in the Maldives.
The public health authority’s nightly statistics revealed that most of the new cases, 14, were discovered from the greater Malé region, whereas the remaining case was discovered from an operational resort.
The new cases were confirmed out of the 1,731 samples tested between 6pm Sunday and 6pm Monday, revealed HPA.
With this development, Maldives has confirmed a total of 13,213 coronavirus cases thus far.
In addition, HPA reported 116 recoveries by sundown on Monday, pushing the total number of virus-stricken patients to have recovered, to 12,437.
This is the second time the authorities have reported over 100 recoveries in December, having reported 153 recoveries last Thursday.
Active cases across the island nation dropped from 823 to 722 by Monday and out of this, 70 patients are currently hospitalized for treatment. 184 are seeking treatment at isolation facilities currently.
There are 552 active cases in the greater Malé region, whereas 28 are in outlying atolls, 41 in operational resorts, three in other tourist establishments, two in industrial islands and 96 in islands under development.
68.89 percent of the total cases are men, while the remaining 30.95 percent is women. Out of the total, 8,320 cases are local cases, whereas 3,263 Bangladeshi nationals have also contracted the virus. The remaining are 768 Indian nationals, 354 Sri Lankan nationals, 155 Nepalese, 41 Chinese, 38 Russian and 274 patients from other nationalities.
