Maldives reported 36 new cases of the Covid-19 pandemic on Thursday, along with the highest daily recoveries in days.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), a total of 153 Covid-19 patients in the island nation recovered by sundown on Thursday. This has pushed the total number of recoveries in the island nation to 12,154.
The new cases were confirmed out of the 1,801 samples tested within the past 24 hours.
32 of the new cases were confirmed from the greater Malé region, whereas two were confirmed from residential islands and the remaining two from operational resorts.
With this development, the country’s Covid-19 tally has risen to 13,106.
HPA’s nightly statistics also revealed that Maldives currently has 898 active coronavirus cases out of which 86 patients are hospitalized, this is five less than the previous day. Further, 233 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities.
Further, there are 713 active coronavirus cases in the greater Malé region, 21 in outlying atolls, 57 in operational resorts as well as 106 in islands under development. There is an active case in an industrial island as well.
62.83 percent of the country’s Covid-19 tally is local cases, at 8,234, followed by 3,256 cases from the Bangladeshi community residing in the country.
Statistics go on to reveal that 5.81 percent, which is 762 cases are Indians, 353 are Sri Lankan nationals, 154 Nepalese which contributes to 1.18 percent as well as 41 nationals from China and 33 from Russia.
47 Covid-19 patients have died from complications in the island nation thus far, since the first few cases were confirmed from a resort on March 7. Although Covid-19 cases were being discovered from resorts in the beginning, the first case of community transmission in the greater Malé region surfaced on April 15, prompting a region-wide lockdown, which was proven to be effective in containing the spread of the virus.
Authorities began easing the lockdown in May and continue to urge the public to adhere to Covid-19 safety guidelines and instructions in order to eradicate the virus effectively.
