Maldives reported 26 new cases of the Covid-19 infection on Wednesday.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that the new cases include 21 Maldivians and five foreigners.
21 out of the 26 new cases were detected in the greater Malé region, whereas the remaining five cases were confirmed from residential islands.
Wednesday’s cases were confirmed out of the 1,130 samples tested between 6pm Tuesday and 6pm Wednesday.
With this development, Maldives Covid-19 tally has been pushed to 11,822.
Further, the public health authority also reported 29 additional recoveries from the virus by sundown on Wednesday, which means that a total of 10,991 virus-stricken patients have recovered from the pandemic thus far.
Out of the 786 active cases of the virus in the Maldives, 185 patients are seeking treatment at isolation facilities which is 31 patients less that Tuesday.
52 patients also remain hospitalized for treatment, revealed HPA.
Statistics go on to reveal that there are 15 active coronavirus cases across 18 residential islands, including four Maldivians and 11 foreigners.
The number of active coronavirus cases among resort workers has exceeded 100, said HPA, revealing that there are active cases across 30 resorts, including 46 tourists and 127 resort workers.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) continues its appeal on the public to be mindful and adhere to health safety guidelines and precautionary measures even though daily cases are reportedly low in the past few days, as the virus is far from being controlled in the island nation.
