The body of Sidhrathulla Ahmed, 31, native to Vaadhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll who was found dead at sea near Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in the Maldives capital, has been sent to neighboring India to conduct a post-mortem examination

In a message to media outlets, Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the autopsy will be conducted at Medical College Hospital, Trivandrum. The body was placed in the mortuary of Galolhu cemetery before being sent for the autopsy.

The decision to conduct the autopsy test which is followed by uncertainties surrounding the man’s death, as authorities were unable to confirm whether the death was by natural causes, or not. His body was discovered on October 23.

The injuries on his body when he was found, indicated a possible murder, said Sidhrathulla’s family.

Police publicized a CCTV footage of the last known sighting of Sidhrathulla, who was seen walking near the Rasfannu Beach region around 9am-10am on October 22, a day before his body was found in the water.

Police received reports of the dead body drifting in the at around 10:40am on October 23.
