37 additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic have been confirmed in Maldives.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that this is out of the 1,608 samples tested from 6pm Sunday to 6pm Monday.

35 out of the total were reported from the greater Malé region whereas two were discovered from residential islands.

The new cases, which have pushed the country’s Covid-19 tally to 10,567, include 29 Maldivians and eight foreigners.

HPA further reported 63 recoveries from the infection, which means that a total of 9,427 virus-stricken patients have observed full recoveries in the island nation.

The number of patients hospitalized for treatment sits at 65 as of 6pm, Monday alongside 432 patients who are seeking treatment at isolation facilities. This number is 60 less than the previous day.

Maldives currently has 1,099 active cases of the infection.

The pandemic has taken 34 lives in the island nation thus far.

Authorities began implementing stricter measures after a surge in Covid-19 cases being reported since they entered the third phase of lockdown easing. As such, a seven-hour curfew was implemented in August which was followed by a vehicle movement restriction measure for nine hours after sundown. However, this has since been lifted and vehicles are only prohibited from operating during the curfew hours, from 10pm to 5am currently.
