Covid-19: Maldives reports lowest daily cases in days

Maldives reported the lowest daily increase of Covid-19 cases, on Monday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 46 new infections of the global pandemic were confirmed positive out of the 1,310 samples collected within the past 24 hours.

Out of the 46 cases, 44 were detected in the greater Malé region and two in residential islands.

The new cases include 31 Maldivians and 15 foreigners.

With this development, the country’s Covid-19 case count has risen to 9,770.

Further, the total number of patients who have seen full recoveries from the virus in the island nation has been pushed to 8,390 with the 129 recoveries reported on Monday.

Maldives currently has 1,340 active coronavirus cases out of which 692 patients are seeking treatment from isolation facilities and 96 patients are hospitalized for treatment, this is 11 less than the previous day, when 107 patients were receiving treatment at the hospital.

The spokesperson at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), Dr. Nazla Rafeeq revealed that there are 199 pending samples currently.

While monitoring measures had been effective in Hoandedhdhoo island and Madaveli island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll, it has since been lifted from the latter. There are 19 Covid-19 active cases in Hoandedhdhoo island currently.

Further, HPA also revealed that there are active cases in 22 residential islands and 27 resorts with the inclusion of 16 tourists and 39 resort workers.

Despite the number of positive cases being confirmed across the nation seeing a decline, authorities continue their appeal on the general public to be mindful of the precautionary measures as well as the safety guidelines set against the Covid-19 pandemic.
