Maldives reports 74 Covid-19 cases, 44 recoveries

Maldives reported 74 new cases of the Covid-19 pandemic on Friday.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that 70 were confirmed from the greater Malé region and the remaining four were detected from residential islands.

The new cases include 37 Maldivians and 37 foreigners.

With this development, the country's Covid-19 case count sits at 9,568 currently.

Statistics further reveal that the country saw the lowest number of recoveries on Friday after days of reporting over 100 daily recoveries. As such, 44 coronavirus-stricken patients saw full recoveries by 6pm, Friday.

This means that the number of recovered Covid-19 patients has risen to 8,077.

Maldives currently has 1,452 active cases of the virus out of which 642 are seeking treatment at isolation facilities. This is 42 patients less than the previous day.

While the pandemic has claimed 33 lives in the island nation thus far, there are 106 hospitalized patients.

Further, health authorities also revealed that there are active Covid-19 cases in 21 residential islands and 27 resorts with the inclusion of 18 tourists and 39 resorts workers.

Monitoring measures are in effect in Hoandedhdhoo island and Madaveli island of Gaaf Alif atoll.

HPA’s statistics reveal that a majority of the Covid-19 tally is Maldivians, at 6,046. The remaining 3,541 are foreigners, out of which Bangladeshi nationals make up a majority of cases.
