Maldivian has postponed a special flight scheduled to evacuate students from Malaysia, for the second time.
The country’s national airline revealed that this was done to accommodate a maximum number of students from Kuala Lumpur.
The flight has been rescheduled to October 1.
The airline revealed that passengers who have their travel documents prepared may continue to purchase tickets by sending anemailor via Maldivian’s Viber platform.
A one-way ticket for the Kuala Lumpur flight is priced at USD 385.
The flight was initially scheduled for September 10, however, following numerous requests from students in Malaysia to change the date of the flight, the airline rescheduled the flight to September 20 back then.
According to the set procedure, passengers who need to undergo the mandatory 14-day quarantine period are required to bear the quarantine expenses themselves.
Malaysia is home to a sizable community of Maldivians, especially students many of whom have been returning after Malaysia began closing off universities due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The country is currently preparing to reopen schools and universities as the Covid-19 situation has notably been improving in the country.
Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs earlier revealed that work is underway to repatriate more Maldivians from several other countries in the future.
