The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed that a plan has been formulated to provide a permanent and effective solution for the issue of parking in capital Malé City’s suburban extension, Hulhumalé.
In an interview with RaajjeMV on Sunday, HDC’s Municipal Director Adam Azmee revealed that the plan has been shared with the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation and that the company had given special attention to the issue of parking in the suburbs.
However, Azmee revealed that they had faced difficulties in managing parking in the suburbs following the opening of the Sinamale Bridge.
The HDC official revealed that they receive numerous complaints from Hulhumalé residents of vehicles traveling from the capital city being parked in ways that create difficulties for them.
“This is something that we want to avoid. Those travelling from Malé in cars park their vehicles in Hulhumalé and leave on motorcycles”Adam Azmee, Municipal Director at HDC![]()

According to Azmee, work to resolve the parking issue will commence once the relevant institutions and authorities give the green light to do so.
At a time HDC has announced plans to resolve parking issues in the suburbs, authorities had brought the vehicle registration procedure to a halt until a specific parking zone is allocated, during May 2019.
However, the company resumed the registration process once again in August due to a shortage of space in the registration region.
Only owners of land, row houses and flats in Hulhumalé may register their vehicles in the suburban district.
