The government has completed the streetlights installation project in Kolhufushi island of Meemu atoll, funded under the Indian Grant Assistance.
A virtual ceremony was held on Monday to mark the completion of the India-funded project with a grant of MVR 1.5 million.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid shed light on the importance of the project to the island community. As such, he thanked the government of India for facilitating the project which saw the installation of streetlights across the island.
The project was facilitated with the aim to reduce the number of crimes and boosting security and safety of the island community which will in turn lead to the improvement of the community’s lifestyle.
The project comes under the larger grant assistance of MVR 106 million provided by the neighboring nation in March last year and aims to conduct high-impact socio-economic development projects across the scatter of islands comprising Maldives.
The schemes initiated under the grant assistance, are managed by local authorities.
The virtual reception was joined by the High Commissioner of India to the Maldives, Sunjay Sudhir, MP for Mulaku Constituency Ibrahim Naseer, President of the Kolhufushi Council Hussain Shamil and officials of the Government, island council and the High Commission.
