Maldives Covid-19 case count has surpassed 9,000.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported 62 new cases of the infection on Saturday night, which brings the country’s Covid-19 tally to 9,052.
According to the health authority, 51 out of the total cases detected on Saturday were from the Greater Malé Region whereas 11 were from residential islands.
The new cases include 44 Maldivians and 18 foreign nationals.
Further, the country reported a total of 209 recoveries from the infection by 6pm Saturday, which means that the total number of Covid-19 patients who have fully recovered from the virus has risen to 7,055.
While the country’s active cases were above 2,000 the previous day, the number has since dropped to 1,960, out of which 908 patients remain at isolation facilities and 116 hospitalized for treatment. There are currently two patients receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the 11th floors of Dharumavantha Hospital and nine on ventilator support. 66 patients are being treated in ICU overall.
HPA also revealed that there are active cases in 28 residential islands and 26 resorts with the inclusion of 13 tourists and 39 resort workers. There are 109 active cases in residential islands including 90 locals and 18 foreigners.
During the press briefing on Saturday night, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that there are 113 active cases across 30 islands currently.
While the number of Covid-19 cases in Hoandedhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll sits at 37, eight are high risk patients and authorities had identified 202 contacts through contact tracing out of which 18 have been identified in the high-risk category. Authorities have also collected samples for 11 more individuals for testing.
The coronavirus pandemic has taken 31 lives in the Maldives thus far.
Monitoring measures are currently implemented in Manadhoo island of Noonu atoll, Madaveli island and Hoandedhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
