Director of Prisons at Asseyri Prison, Mohamed Shaaheen Ali, has been suspended over corruption allegations.
Maldives Correctional Services (MCS), which is in charge of all prisons in the country, has confirmed this to RaajjeMV.
According to RaajjeMV sources, Shaheen’s suspension comes after an investigation was launched into the allegations against him last Thursday.
While Shaheen was handling some development projects at the prison including at its rehabilitation centre, RaajjeMV understands that he is to have used this project to conduct some unrelated personal projects.
The prison development projects are being funded by the state, under the Public Sector Investment Programme.
MCS has been subject to various corruption allegations, especially through its cooperative society.
