Two individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 in Dhaandhoo island of Gaaf Alif atoll have been transferred to the isolation facility in Villingili island of the same atoll.
The two individuals, a mother and son were transferred to the Covid-19 facility in Villingili at around 10pm, Tuesday and both are reportedly doing well.
Gaaf Alif Atoll Hospital’s Manager, Shareef Ahmed revealed that the woman, 59, was in the high-risk category and her son, a 19-year-old also tested positive for the virus.
The 59-year-old woman is a diabetics patient and is also seeking treatment for a number of other chronic illnesses.
Shareef revealed that arrangements had been made at the facility for the pair when they were transferred. As such, they had allocated a separate building for healthcare services for the Covid-19 patients alongside ambulance services and laundry. The X-ray machine has been allocated for Covid-19 patients and a portable machine is being used for general patients currently, said Shareef.
The Dhaandhoo council president, Ismail Mohamed told RaajjeMV that the pair had traveled to the island from capital Malé City on August 15, with their family which includes three minors. However, samples collected from the three children came back negative for Covid-19.
The council is closely monitoring the situation of the family.
Further, the council revealed that restrictions on entering and exiting the island, have not been placed despite the confirmed cases of the infection.
A total of 12 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the atoll thus far and authorities have thus far collected a total of 1,285 samples from the atoll, with the inclusion of resorts.
