Maldives Covid-19 tally has surpassed 7,000.
While a Covid-19 case was first detected in the island nation in March, with the 135 new cases reported on Tuesday the country’s total case count has reached 7,047.
The cases reported on Tuesday include 109 locals, 15 Bangladeshis, eight Indians, two Egyptian nationals and one Nepali.
Further, with 142 recoveries reported on Tuesday, there has been 4,439 recoveries.
While an additional Covid-19 related death was reported on Tuesday, the country has seen 28 deaths from Covid-19.
There are currently 2,580 active cases currently. 173 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals.
While most of the Covid-19 cases detected in the country were mainly in the capital region prior to lockdown easing, there are active cases in at least 32 residential and 10 tourist islands currently.
All 64 cases detected from residential islands are linked to individuals under home isolation, which is a requirement when traveling from the capital.
With a surge in Covid-19 cases seen after the country entered the third phase of lockdown easing, authorities have strengthened safety measures in the capital region this August.
Most of the coronavirus cases are being confirmed from the capital, a visual representation published by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Tuesday shows that most were detected in the Maafannu ward of the city.
