An employee of the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has passed away.

MACL revealed that Ismail Rasheed passed away on Sunday afternoon, while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for burns sustained in a fire incident at Velana International Airport (VIA) within the past week.

Rasheed, 46 provided services for MACL for over 26 years and was a valuable employee, revealed MACL.

The fire broke out in the sea plane fuel storage depot on the east side of VIA, a little past 6pm last Monday.

On the day of the fire, MACL revealed that it was quickly doused by the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Service and that the company’s safety department had launched Internal investigations into the incident that took the life of a worker.
