President Solih conveys Independence Day greetings to India
“73 years since India began its tryst with destiny"

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent Independence Day greetings to India.
Extending greetings via Twitter, the president noted that it has been “73 years since India began its tryst with destiny,” and praised the country’s “democratic values and contributions to peace and progress”.
He described India as a “beacon of hope” in this aspect.
Former President, and current Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed also conveyed Independence Day greetings to neighbouring nation, saying that “the idea of India has always been one of freedom, independence and democracy.”
He added that “August 15 is the day when the Indian people turned that idea into a reality.”
Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also extended the day’s greetings to his Indian counterpart, Dr. S. Jaishankar as well as the government and people of India.
Noting that the Maldives and India will celebrate 55 years of formal diplomatic relations in November this year, Shahid stressed that the links between the two nations “are far older, and the ties that binds [the two countries] continue to flourish.”
India gained independence from the British on 15th August 1947.
