He described India as a “beacon of hope” in this aspect.

Former President, and current Parliament Speaker, Mohamed Nasheed also conveyed Independence Day greetings to neighbouring nation, saying that “the idea of India has always been one of freedom, independence and democracy.”

He added that “August 15 is the day when the Indian people turned that idea into a reality.”

Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid also extended the day’s greetings to his Indian counterpart, Dr. S. Jaishankar as well as the government and people of India.

Since the attainment of its independence, India has strived for the betterment of its people and, at the same time, shared its acquired expertise and rich experience with the rest of the world. Today, India stands as an enduring example of democracy and development, for the region, and the world.
