A newborn who tested positive for the global Covid-19 pandemic, has been hospitalized.

Pediatrician at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dr. Ahmed Faisal revealed that the newborn, just one month old, was admitted due to high fever.

The doctor went on to reveal that the child was dehydrated and that there were difficulties in breastfeeding the child.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA)’s Covid-19 dashboard shows that a total of 210 children under 10 years of age have tested positive for the virus in the Maldives.

This includes 94 girls and 116 boys.

Further, the dashboard shows that a total of 239 individuals aged between 11 – 20 years have contracted the virus out of which 114 are female and 125 are male.

Thus far, Maldives has confirmed a total of 4,293 Covid-19 cases out of which 1,490 are active cases.

The recovery total currently sits at 2,670.
