Maldives Covid-19 case count has surpassed 3,000.

This was following the 45 new cases reported on Tuesday, among the 711 samples tested within 24 hours.

The new cases include mostly locals, 31, as well as 12 Bangladeshi and two Indian nationals.

This bring the country’s Covid-19 total to 3,044.

Further, with the 28 additional recoveries reported, a total of 2,397 patients have recovered from the virus.

There are currently 617 active Covid-19 cases in the island nation.

There have been 15 deaths to Covid-19 thus far, and health officials have expressed concern over the increase in patients requiring treatment at hospitals.

According to the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), hospital bed usage increased to 17 percent in the second week of July, from five percent.

While the country’s first coronavirus cases were confirmed from resorts, a community transmission was detected in mid-April. The greater Malé was immediately locked down, and authorities initiated the first phase of lockdown easing on May 29.

The country is currently in the third phase, which brought a number of eases to movement restriction measures. This includes dine-in services at cafes and restaurants, as well as the reopening of mosques in the capital and government offices.

The state of public health emergency, declared on March 12, was extended last week, until August 7.
