Three mosques in the capital have been closed for disinfection, following confirmed Covid-19 cases.

The three mosques are; Masjid Al-Sultan Hassan Izzudheen, Masjid Al-Sultan Mohamed Imaduddin and Masjid Al-Afeefudheen.

The city council has also confirmed that disinfection programmes are being carried out in the mosques.

Authorities suspended prayers in congregation and closed off mosques following the Covid-19 pandemic, on March 18.

While the first Covid-19 cases in the country were confirmed from a resort on March 7, a community spread was confirmed on April 15. While authorities began lockdown easing on May 29, mosques were reopened as the country entered the third phase of lockdown easing on July 1. Authorities decided to allow prayer gatherings in islands with no Covid-19 restrictions in late May.
