Fazeel was suspended from his post, following “serious allegations” of sexual harassment

Ahmed Fazeel, Communication Director at the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has been suspended following serious allegations of sexual harassment.

Spokesperson at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Hood revealed the decision to suspend the Fisheries Ministry official via Twitter.

As such, Hood revealed that Fazeel was suspended from his post, following “serious allegations” of sexual harassment and that the matter is currently under investigation.

It has also been revealed that Fazeel has been secluded from the activities of Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), due to the allegations pinned on him, on social media.

MRM has assured that they are fully cooperating with relevant authorities to take the required action, highlighting that offenses of sexual assault and harassment are unacceptable.

Recent cases of sexual harassment and abuse have brought a number of senior officials of the government under fire.

As such, earlier this month, the Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed was sacked from his post, hours after President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih told him to resign. Waheed was fired due to inappropriate behavior towards his employees, at the work place. A number of female employees at the ministry accused the former minister of sexual abuse, through resort trips of the ministry.

Waheed denied the allegations against him, saying that "time will tell the truth" and that the truth "will always prevail".
