Over 1,400 spaces were inspected this week, to ensure that service providers are following all Covid-19 safety guidelines.
Authorities had announced plans to conduct the mass public health inspection in the greater Malé region, last week.
Speaking at the Covid-19 press briefing held at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) on Tuesday, Deputy Mayor Shamau Shareef said that a total of 1,475 spaces were inspected through the four-day programme.
The city council conducted the work together with the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Ministry of Economic Development, Maldives Police Service, Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC), Housing Development Corporation and Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO).
Restaurant, cafés, shops, salons, gyms and the market area were inspected.
Shamau said that about 1,000 of the places were following safety measures fully, while most are to be at “a medium level”.
He stressed that one of the biggest discoveries through the inspection is that most of store clerks are not aware are not aware of the measures to be taken against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The inspection work is to continue for the next two days as well.
Measures are to be taken against businesses found to be violating the safety guidelines.
