Maldives Covid-19 case count has surpassed 2,500.
While 10 new cases were announced on Tuesday, seven locals and three Bangladeshi nationals, this brings the total case count to 2,501.
The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) on Monday warned of an increase of Covid-19 cases with no connection to previously confirmed cases, adding that this is a cause for concern.
Further, an additional 45 patients have recovered from the virus. While this pushes the total recoveries to 2,158, there are currently 326 active cases in the country.
Maldives has also confirmed 12 deaths to Covid-19; seven locals and five foreigners.
Maldives' first Covid-19 cases were confirmed from a resort on March 7, and a community transmission was detected in the capital on April 15. While a lockdown was imposed in the city immediately, authorities began easing lockdown on May 29. The country is currently in phase three of the ease plan, with plans to reopen borders and restart the tourism industry on July 15.
