The People’s Majlis has completed its review on the government’s plans to mitigate the adverse effects of measures implemented to curb the spread of Covid-19, and handed over its reports to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Speaker and former President, Mohamed Nasheed delivered the report to the incumbent president at a meeting held at the President’s Office, on Monday afternoon.
The purpose of the report is to give the parliament’s input on the government’s plans to overcome the Covid-19 crisis, and comprises of recommendations from the various parliament committees as well as its various predicted impacts due to the pandemic including to the state income.
It also includes the estimated pandemic-induced layoffs and other impacts of this such as social and shelter issues, as well as details of how to assist those affected.

Handing over the report to the President, Speaker Nasheed revealed that it was just 400 pages out of a 1,500 paged report. Noting that the parliament’s 14 committees had reviewed the Covid-19 recovery plans, Nasheed stated that summaries of these reports will also be sent to the president.
At Monday’s meeting, President Solih thanked the speaker and all the parliamentarians, for the hard work and effort to ensure the safety of their constituents.
